Texas Weather Update Friday 11:00pm

Our biggest issue right now is the two year old kiddo who refuses to sleep! The kids are bedded down in the closet and are more than comfy. Don moved the little tv downstairs so we can be close to them and still get news while we've got power. We did have a little power blip - but it came back on immediately. And of course, Joshy shouts from the closet, "What was dat?!"
Also, an small but annoying feature of our home is becoming even more annoying as the wind picks up. One of the front windows has a small nail hole in the seal and if the wind hits it just at the right angle it whistles or howls. Not a big deal if it's the average thunderstorm but when we are expecting the winds to just get worse and we are looking at trying to sleep 25ft from this area.....well........yeah. It's been upgraded from annoying to downright irritating!!
The newest reports coming in are fires on Galveston Island. It started with one house fire and the wind has caught the flames and it's just jumping from building to building. There's not anything that anyone can do now.....everything's pretty much underwater and there is no power. So sad to think of people who left their homes and then will come back to just ashes.
We have been really surprised about how stupid and crazy people are being about safety too! The news channel we were watching had a split screen going: one with a camera aimed right at the beach and all the waves crashing in and then the second screen they were interviewing a local weatherman. As we are watching the waves crashing, some guy goes running down to the beach and is taking pictures of the water. He's out there in the surf getting completely wet and everyone at the news station is unaware for a good five minutes! Then, some anchor woman notices the local idiot splashing in the waves and everyone starts saying how very, very dangerous this is! Well DUH!! Not to mention there is a curfew in affect and if they catch you out past dusk or before dawn - you get fined $2500.00!!
So, forgive me for hoping that some CSI agent will be able to analyze the video tape from the news cameras and will be able to find out who this nut is !! I'm sure that he's out there somewhere thinking he's going to make big bucks on his "exclusive" hurricane pics. Perhaps I should be happy that he didn't get pounded by the surf and carried out to sea. Hmmm, I guess deep down inside I am relived that the jerk is safe. But right now, I'm just hoping they send him a big fat bill for breaking curfew !
